This Special Easter edition of Matumaini E-News contains current news which we hope you will enjoy reading, prayer points to help you to pray and ways for you to give and bless the children of Kenya. Thank you for reading this and for your ongoing support.
Tree planting
There were 23 new trees planted recently which will provide valuable shade and shelter.
Educational trip out
On Easter Sunday, four young adults were taken on a day trip to the lake Nakuru game park which was a memorable day as they saw white rhino and they all had soda and a picnic lunch .
Eye tests
Three kids all went for eye tests last week and one of them has a new pair of glasses another doesn't need and the third refused to open her eyes so we'll just have to try again! .
Evening Study & Teaching
There is evening study in the hostel and students are helped with their homework and studies. They follow a tough syllabus and learn English too. All their subjects are taught in English.
Basic Computer Skills
Basic computer skills are taught as there are three working computers in the training centre. They are taught how to use a computer and given exercises to help them practise using a mouse and keyboard.
Power supply
The centre would benefit from a solar power energy scheme as this would provide valuable electricity to power the computers in the classes at the primary school.
Cooking lessons
There are some cooking classes in the hostel during the evening and meals such as pasta are made and enjoyed together. It is challenging making a large meal and cooking using a 'jiko'.
Prayer Points
o Pray for more funds and more supporters to enable plans to build and develop the centre (e.g. path, wheelchair ramps, solar power, renovation of volunteer's accommodation). Much is needed but we pray to our God who has limitless resources to answer our prayers..
o Pray for health for all the boys and protection from malarial disease
o Pray for the staff – their health, energy levels, motivation, wisdom, encouragement and commitment
o Praise God that it is raining a lot which means the vegetables are growing well in the garden
o Praise God that several boys have been able to receive free eye tests and new glasses
